Nom bar – A quick review.

I’d heard a few things about Nom bars, but never actually seen any before. So imagine my joy and surprise when I noticed my local Deli shop had started stocking them! I quickly grabbed one to try later, and it was definitely worth it.

My brother woke me up on Saturday to see if I wanted to join him on a spur-of-the-moment trip to Cardiff, and if I did, our bus would be leaving in 20 minutes! So I hardly hard time to get dressed, let alone grab breakfast! I was therefore very grateful to have this little parcel of goodness tucked away in my handbag to keep me going on the 2+ hour trip..
The bar that I chose was the “original” flavour. These bars are basically like a little flapjack – but a heck of a lot healthier, and tastier.

I mean, just look at that ingredients list! Oats, coconut oil, agave, coconut nectar, oat bran and cacao nibs. I could hardly make it healthier if I made one at home myself. Not to mention the fact that these are made from organic, ethically sourced ingredients. I like it already! But no matter how “good” a product seems, what people really care about is the flavour. So what does a Nom bar taste like?

I think I fell in love with the first bite. You get the rich, soft chew of the oats, which when coupled with the sweet coconut nectar, gave it an almost caramel feeling. I wasn’t sure if the coconut oil and sugar would be a bit overwhelming, but I thought it worked really well. It’s sweet without being too sweet, and rich without being cloying. And every now and then, you bite into the crunchy surprise of a cacao nib. And if you’ve never tried cacao with coconut, you are truly missing out.

I’m not normally a big fan of chocolate in my flapjacks, but I think this worked a treat. I shared a little with my brother, who normally isn’t a health food fan, and even he enjoyed it.

I will say that these are a bit pricey compared to your “normal” flapjack, and they are quite a bit smaller. But I couldn’t eat the whole thing in one sitting (though I do have a very small appetite), and I do honestly think you get what you pay for here.

I intended on buying this as a one-off to see what it was like, but I can see myself enjoying these more often! They are great to keep on you for when you need a quick snack, and they make for  a rather indulgent-tasting (but healthy) breakfast on the go.

I can’t wait to see what other flavours they do!
